Crash Bandicoot Original Tawna

For the Crash fans who visit my blog. Here's something special for you. Art from the original development of Crash Bandicoot that I'm fairly certain hasn't been seen before. These sketches are concept drawings of Tawna Crash's girlfriend. They were drawn in 1995 with black line pen early in the creation of the project when it was Willy the Wombat. Looking back I wish I would've taken more time with each one but they are what they are. To my knowledge the images have not been published until now. Hope you enjoy them.

Thanks guys. I guess this is a special moment. It's taken more than 17 years to see this. There's more. There's more artwork that hasn't been seen yet for Crash than what's come out before.

Thanks for the links Pat. Those images are of Cortex when he was finalized. It was my job to make him act, move him around and in general make sense out of the design. I don't recall how much of an inspiration Brain was to the look of Cortex but he was a favorite character of mine at the time. It was more along the lines of following the description of the character as he was being conceived.

I have images of the development of Cortex that have not been shown through the standard outlets. ND was partial to Joe Pearson's interpretation of the look of the character so I adapted to what Joe was doing which was clumsy for me. Did my best to work with designs that were inherently difficult to engineer.

I'll get around to showing the very first drawings of Neo Cortex and you'll see the original thinking behind him.

Hi tengg coon. Yes, that's really nice. Very impressive. I like Crash fan art. Spyro too and J&D. It's always interesting to see how other artists interpret the characters and the look of the games.

That's just a small part of everything Joe and I did in developing the original Crash. When you add the art I produced on Crash 2 and Crash 3 along with the entire body of design and development for Nitro Kart the surface has hardly been scratched.

Yes there's development work of Coco. I'll be getting around to her. There's a lot of stuff from Crash I'll be showing.

The sketches where Tawna is bigger and bolder make her look slightly Asian... I don't know if Asian is the right word in this case. I can't think of the word, but she reminds me of something you'd see off Lilo and Stitch, or a bulkier anime character.
